Once in a blue moon I will suffer from serious fish and chips withdrawal symptoms and need to satisfy those cravings before it escalates. TRUST ME, YOU DO NOT WANT TO SEE THAT HAPPENING. Ha! Anyhoo, nowadays they do offer a wide variety of dipping sauces ranging from nacho cheese to chili crab and needless to say my favorites will always be the good ol' tomato sauce and traditional malt vinegar.

In England, you can find a chippy or chipper (shop that sells takeaway fish and chips) at almost every corner of the street. They are as common as how bubble tea is in Singapore. And one thing for sure is that those Brits sure know how to enjoy life as they wash down the golden deep fried goodness with a cold frosty mug. Let's take a peek on my list of approved chippies...

Molly Malones, an Irish pub along Circular Road which is fully-packed even on the weekday nights! But who can you blame? They serve great food and beer plus a live band promised to rock the premises. I saw a Molly Malones while holidaying in Phuket but didn't get the chance to try the food there. Shall do it next time yo! Back to the story, we almost couldn't get seats as I recalled they don't seem to take reservations. It took a while before we got the waiter's attention and ordered their famous fish and chips to share as well as one pint of beer each.

TADAAAH! Behold one of the yummiest I have ever had. The fish was soft, the kind that melts in your mouth and compliments beautifully with the crunchiness of the batter which is not too thick. I will definitely revisit but maybe during lunch and hopefully there won't be a crowd!

Next on the list, The Old Brown Shoe which is located among the shop houses near Coronation Plaza in Bukit Timah area. From the name itself you could have already figured out how quaint and cozy the pub is. If I did not recall wrongly, their happy hour promotion features housepours from 10 bucks and under. I had the Strongbow cider which is one of the better ones comparable to Somersby apple cider. The fish and chips were wrapped traditionally in newspaper as if we wanted a takeaway.

Basic condiments such as malt vinegar and tomato sauce were made easily accessible on each single table. I loved how the fish tasted however the batter although crispy was slightly thick. Guess the quality varies from each visit. On the bright side, the portion is huge which is a plus point for voracious eaters.

So what kind of fish and chips do you like? ;)
